HARMONICA REVIEWS FROM $3 DOLLARS TO $20 DOLLARS

Review of Harmonicas Am I really reviewing $5.00 Harps?  Sure, why not.  I am actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of a couple of these harmonicas.  Most of these harps are the ones you would pick up at the gift shop on your family vacation and your kids would spend the rest of the way home squeaking and squawking and driving everyone crazy.  However, there are a couple of serious beginner harmonicas in this bunch that can be useful tools.  I would start at the top with the Hohner Colorful and consider that as a decent harmonica.  For $5.00 we can get you into a harp that will fit a kid just nicely.  At least you can’t complain about the price.

Hohner Clearly Colorful Translucent BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HOHNER MAKES A $5 HARMONICA. They even make cheaper ones, which you will find out as you keep reading these reviews. Out of all of the "Cheap" harmonicas on the internet, this is the one that I bought for my 5 year old. It at least has playing potential. PLASTIC everything, exterior, comb, etc. It does have a crisp sound and the Reeds work well. WORTH MORE THAN THE PRICE. Good Cheap Harp.★★★★★+

Hohner 1501BX Blues Band I'm really struggling here to find a harp for less than $10 bucks that plays sweet music. The Hohner blues Band harp goes for $5 and really jives. Hey that rhymes. This one is a top beginners harp seller and I think it is worth the price of a double hamburger and french fries. ★★★★★+

Chicago Blues Harp, Key of G The Chicago Blues Harp really has mixed reviews on amazon. From "we love it, plays great music" to "piece of Junk" and "it quit working soon after we bought it." Having played it before, I can tell you that it is a typical gift shop harmonica. It works. It's cheap. So if you want to be a professional spend a littler more money.★★★★

Hohner BIP Key of C, D and G Unless I'm wrong, It looks like they are giving away three harps in keys C, D and G for the price of $8.60. That is a couple of bucks per harp. And shipping is free with prime. YOU are going to get what you pay for. A plastic toy that may or may not play music. ★★★

Woodstock Blues Band TOP SELLER ON AMAZON! So, why the Three Stars and low Ranking? Because it is just not great. It is really hard to blow. The engineering is sub par. Air escapes and it just isn't built too well. Hey, I'm not complaining too much. It costs less than $8.00 and to tell you the truth IT LOOKS GOOD. So there's that. ★★★

Hohner Old Standby I'm going to give Hohner a break on the OLD STANDBY. Just because I am nice and forgiving, I am giving the Old Standby a 4 Star rating. I think the price is a little high for the quality of the instrument. BUT, IT IS A TOP AMAZON SELLER and it does have the Hohner name. I think you get better music for the #1 rated Hohner Clearly Colorful and you only have to pay $5.00.★★★★

Hohner 38C Mini I KNOW THE REVIEWS ON AMAZON ARE POOR. I can read. However, I'm still going with three stars because of the look. I love mini instruments. They are cool. This one won't get much blow out of you and you won't be able to charm the masses, HOWEVER, it is cool looking. Stuff it in a Christmas Stocking. Just DON'T SWALLOW IT!★★★

Metal Toy Harmonica from Toysmith I'M NOT A TOYSMITH HATER. Just not a lot of reviews on this harp and it has been years since I've blown into one. I do think this one has the potential of moving up this list. I actually like the look and construction and think it could make a very decent cheap harmonica. ★★★

Melissa & Doug Harmonica Ok, Sorry Melissa and Doug. I prefer Barney and Little Bear. This harp just isn't going to cut it. It is just TOO Difficult for kids to blow and create sound. It does have the words "Melissa & Doug" written on the front cover so that is probably worth a couple bucks. Other than that, it is not a serious harp.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A $3 TO $20 HARMONICA?

I’m not going to get into a long discussion about Harmonica Reeds, Combs and engineering in this review.  It is just not worth it.  For the most part you are getting plastic parts and harmonicas that are difficult to blow. What you are looking for is something that your child can learn on.  You want a harmonica that will last for a while so your child can figure out if playing a harmonica is right for him/her.  You are looking for a harmonica that looks nice in a christmas stocking. If you are looking for anything more than a toy, read our harmonica reviews from 20$ To 50$.

SUMMARY OF HARMONICA REVIEWS:

You can see Video/Audio Harmonica Reviews of These Harps in an Upper Price Range.  Harmonica’s under $20 just aren’t video reviewed.  The bottom line on these harps is that they are Toys.  They are not for serious players or even intermediate players.  They are for children and adults that have rarely played before and are looking for a toy.  They are useful however, if you are thinking about diving seriously into the hobby and want to test it out before you put much money into it.

LOOKING FOR A GOOD HARMONICA BOOK TO GET YOU PLAYING?:

I generally do not endorse “The Dummy” books. However, whoever they got to write this Dummy book for Harmonica players knew what they were doing. It is a great guide for beginners and intermediate players to learn how to play. Great book. Shopping for something and you have an unlimited budget? Try our harmonica reviews from 500$ to 1500$
